Castnook Privacy Policy

CastNook ("the app," "we," "us") is a podcast player for Android. This policy explains what data the app collects, what it doesn't, and how the data it does collect is used. We wrote it to match exactly what the app does — there's no boilerplate here about services CastNook doesn't use.
Summary
CastNook does not require an account, and does not collect your name, email address, or any other personal identifier.
Your subscriptions, listening history, downloads, and playback progress are stored only on your device. We never see them. (Your device may back up this data to Google's servers via Android's built-in backup service, depending on your device and Google Account settings—we don't control or access that backup.)
The only data that leaves your device is: search terms you type (sent to Apple's iTunes podcast directory), the podcast feeds you subscribe to (fetched directly from the podcast's own host, e.g. its publisher's server), and anonymous crash reports if the app crashes.
We do not sell data, show ads, or use any analytics or advertising SDKs.
Data stored only on your device
CastNook stores the following locally, in the app's private storage on your device. None of it is transmitted to us or to any server we operate:
Podcast subscriptions and episode metadata
Playback position and listening history
Starred episodes and playlists
Downloaded episode files
Per-podcast settings (playback speed, notification preferences, etc.)
App-wide settings and preferences
This data is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its storage in Android's app settings. If your device backs up app data (Android's built-in backup), this local data may be included in that backup, subject to your own device and Google Account backup settings — we have no access to it either way.
Data sent to third parties
Apple's iTunes podcast directory. When you search for or browse podcasts, your search terms and requested podcast IDs are sent to Apple's public iTunes API to retrieve results. This is a standard web request; Apple's handling of this data is governed by .
Podcast hosts. When you subscribe to a podcast, view its episodes, stream, or download an episode, CastNook connects directly to that podcast's own hosting server (its RSS feed and media files), the same way any podcast app or web browser would. We don't operate or proxy this traffic — it goes directly from your device to the podcast publisher's server, subject to that publisher's own practices.
Crash reporting (Firebase Crashlytics). If CastNook crashes, an anonymous crash report — the error, a stack trace, your device model, and Android version — is sent to Firebase Crashlytics (a Google service) so we can find and fix the bug. This report is not linked to your identity; we don't collect your name, email, or any account information, because the app has no accounts. Crash reporting is used only in the version of the app you install from the Play Store, not in development/test builds. Firebase's handling of this data is governed by .
What we don't do
We don't require or support user accounts or sign-in.
We don't collect your name, email, phone number, or contacts.
We don't track your location.
We don't use advertising SDKs or show ads.
We don't use analytics SDKs beyond the anonymous crash reporting described above.
We don't sell or share your data with data brokers or advertisers.
Permissions the app requests
Internet / network state — to search for podcasts, fetch episodes, and stream/download audio.
Notifications — to alert you about new episodes, if you opt in per-podcast.
Foreground service (media playback) — required by Android to keep audio playing while the app is in the background.
Children's privacy
CastNook is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes — for example, if we add a new feature that changes what data is collected — we'll update this page and the effective date above.
